Hunger strikes with equal force no
matter where we live. A huge, invisible
population of poor and hungry people
live and work in Monterey, Santa Cruz
and San Benito Counties. Our network of
tri-county food banks makes our produce
donations available to more than 240
nonprofit human service agencies and
feeds 75,000 low-income people in the
tri-county area each month. Millions more people are served by our
program throughout California and the
West Coast. The recipients of our
produce are of all ages, races, genders,
ethnicities and abilities. Many of them
are among the working poor and all have
at least one commonality: they are
hungry.
Many of the people who receive our
produce must regularly choose between
basic necessities such as fuel, rent,
and food. The majority of low-income
families living on California’s Central
Coast spend at least 50% of their income
on rent and have little money to spend
on food and other needs. Making healthy
food choices is many times a decision
our recipients can’t afford.
Ag Against Hunger collects healthy,
nutritious produce and makes it
available to the people who need it
most. The low-income people in our
communities also live at the highest
risk of obesity because they do not have
access to healthy food choices.
The Ag Against Hunger program makes sure
fresh fruits and vegetables are
available to people who cannot afford
them, helping people to live healthier
lives.

produce helps the hungry in your

need, America's Second Harvest (ASH)
recently published their findings from a
study conducted nationwide in 2005.The
